In May 2011 I was privileged to be invited by Oceania Cruises, together with one other Australian travel agent, to cruise from Venice to Athens onboard its majestic, newly launched ship, “Marina”.
Marina is the largest ship in the Oceania fleet carrying 1258 passengers and 800 crew. Despite a gross tonnage of 65000, it was purpose built to be a warm and intimate ship and after spending ten days cruising on Marina I can endorse that this has been achieved. The elegant yet casual ambience, and designer furnishings and fittings, create a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere.
Oceania cruises is renowned for its cuisine at sea. Marina offers six distinctive gourmet restaurants, each of which has a unique style and character. There is the Grand Dining Room which offers European inspired continental cuisine, the French restaurant Jacques, Red Ginger offering authentic Asian cuisine, The Polo Grill featuring steak house and seafood cuisine and Toscana, with traditional Italian fare. The Terrace is a relaxed outdoor/indoor eating area for breakfast, lunch or a casual dinner and there is also Waves Grill for poolside lunches and snacks. Should you fancy private dining, Privee and La Reserve will accommodate this desire.
