Cape Kidnappers Pairs & Singles Golf Tournament plus Hawkes Bay Golf Tour 8 to 15 April 2024

8 to 15 April 2024 (8 days - 7 nights)
Detailed Itinerary & Golf Programme

Tour Cost From AUD 11,800/Couple (AUD 5,900 pp Twin Share)

You are invited to join Trendsetter Travel’s NZ golf tour which culminates in attendance at the 54 hole Trendsetter Travel Golf Tournament, to be held at Cape Kidnappers.  Your tour hosts are David Cooper and Adrienne Witteman.  Apart from playing 3 rounds at Cape Kidnappers, consistently rated in the world’s top 50 courses, you will stay 3 nights at Cape Kidnappers, 4 nights in Napier, get to enjoy 2 games at Hastings Golf Club, the best of the 3 local Hawkes Bay courses and attend a day’s wine tasting including lunch at one of Hawkes Bay’s leading wineries.

Cape Kidnappers is one of the most luxurious golf resorts in the world.  Participating in this event is, by some margin, the best value proposition when staying and playing at Cape Kidnappers.  This is particularly true as we are playing late summer but utilising a special group rate unique to Trendsetter Travel.  Your 4 nights in Napier is at, in our view, the best hotel in Napier, the 18 room boutique County Hotel with 5 suite room upgrade options.

Tour transportation will be by coach.

Golf carts will be available for all 5 golf rounds (although for the 2 x rounds at Hastings Golf Club, we have booked all 12 motorised carts which may be insufficient for all our tour party) and are included in the tour cost. We hope to increase beyond 12 carts by accessing members’ motorised carts. Carts will be available for those that are unable to play without a cart.  Pull buggies will be available for those that walk.

We look to avoid being rushed at golf – intending to arrive between 45 minutes and 60 minutes before 1st tee off (we have 2 tee or multiple tee starts booked at all courses – which should see all our party complete their respective rounds within 30 minutes of one another) and have time for a refreshing drink (complimentary other than at Cape Kidnappers) in the club rooms post golf.  We will run competitions at all the courses we play.  Strict rules of golf will apply other than the “Penalty Area Rule” for lost balls in the interests of speeding up play.

Itinerary

Monday 8 April 2024

Fly to Napier and stay 4 nights at the County Hotel, located down town in Napier.   We have chosen this hotel due to it being, in our view, the best hotel in Napier and an easy walk to many of the leading Napier restaurants.  Trendsetter has contracted all the rooms in the County Hotel for our stay. There should be flights (all connecting through either Wellington or Auckland) arriving early evening from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.  Trendsetter will provide coach transfers to the County Hotel to meet the early evening Auckland to Napier flight (scheduled to arrive at 5.35 pm – coach pick up time will alter if flight scheduling changes).  Should you choose to arrive on an alternative flight, you will need to make your own way to our hotel at your own cost (it is only a short 10 minute taxi ride).  The cost of the international flight to and from Napier is NOT included in the tour price.  Included pre-dinner drinks (unlimited bar access -other than champagne) will commence in the Churchill Bar from 7.00 pm with sit down dinner from 7.45 pm in the hotel’s restaurant.  Dinner will be inclusive of beers, selected wines and soft drinks.  Late dinner reflects the 2 hour time difference between Australia and NZ.

Lead in rooms at County Hotel all include either a King or Queen Bed with shower.  Upgraded room options include:

  • Spa Suite (4) – larger room with Super King Bed, Spa Bath and separate shower (extra AUD 300 for 4 nights)
  • Huia Suite (1) – largest Suite including ornate finishes, separate lounge, spa bath and separate shower (extra AUD 600 for 4 nights)

Following breakfast (served from 7.30 am to 9.00 am) and a relaxing morning, we depart by coach at 10.50 am for a 30 minute (27 km) coach transfer to play Hastings Golf Club (often known as Bridge Pa) where we have a two tee start from 12.20 pm. Outside of Cape Kidnappers, Hastings Golf Club is the # 1 ranked golf club in Hawkes Bay.

Independent dining this evening.

Wednesday 10 April 2024

Following breakfast (served from 7.00 am to 8.30 am), we depart at 9.45 am for our 2nd golf game at Hastings Golf Club. We have a two tee start from 11.20 am and have booked all 12 of the clubs motorised carts.

Independent dining this evening.

Thursday 11 April 2024

We have a non-golf day.  After a leisurely breakfast (served from 7.30 am to 9.00 am) and perhaps a walk around historic Napier with its many famous Art Deco buildings (Napier was totally destroyed after the famous 1931 earthquake and was rebuilt with many of the original buildings constructed in the then fashionable Art Deco style), we depart by coach at 11.30 am for a 30 minute drive to Craggy Range, one of Hawkes Bay’s leading wineries.  Craggy Range is famous for its restaurant, probably the leading winery restaurant in Hawkes Bay.  Our tour will include wine tasting, pre-lunch drinks, lunch and standard wines/beers/soft drinks.  We expect to depart between 3.30 pm and 4.00 pm.

If you do not wish to join the winery visit and lunch, the tour cost reduces by $200 pp.

Friday 12 April 2024

In order to maximise our time at Cape Kidnappers, our coach will leave early at 7.45 am (breakfast will be served from 6.30 am to 7.30 am) for the approximate 45 minute drive to Cape Kidnappers, where we have a shot gun tee start at 9.30 am.  After golf, check into your luxurious rooms at The Farm at Cape Kidnappers.  Our tour price includes the 4 day/3 night Cape Kidnappers stay comprising 3 x tournament rounds (including shared carts), from 6.00/6.30 pm a cocktail hour (plus) followed by dinner on all 3 nights, breakfast all 3 mornings, lunches on all days and a complimentary mini bar in your luxury room (traditionally includes local beers, soft drinks and home-made cookies).  However, you will need to pay for drinks in the golf club rooms and wines over dinner each night.  Each of the 3 x evenings we stay at Cape Kidnappers, complimentary drinks (full selection of local wines, spirits, beers and non-alcoholic beverages) are served in the main lodge from 6 pm until you sit down for dinner (around 7.30 pm).

As you will be a Virtuoso booking, you will also be entitled to a USD 100 credit (most will use to offset cost of wine over dinner and/or drinks in the golf clubrooms) and a room upgrade subject to availability.  Our bookings will be in the Hill Top Suites (46.5 sqm) and upgrades would be to the deluxe Ridge Suites (63 sqm) and Lodge Suites (65 sqm).  Irrespective, all suites are large and luxurious.  Traditionally, around half of our rooms are accorded complimentary upgrades. With our recent Kauri Cliffs tour in April 2023, all 11 rooms were upgraded.

Saturday 13 April 2024

After a relaxing breakfast, there is a late morning either two tee start or multiple tee start for the 2nd round of the Tournament (exact times will be advised the previous evening).

Sunday 14 April 2024

Today is the 3rd round of the Tournament with another either two tee start or multiple tee start for the 3rd round of the Tournament (exact times will be advised the previous evening).  At dinner, prizes for the 54 hole event will be awarded- the major prizes will include golf round vouchers (including golf carts) at either Cape Kidnappers or Kauri Cliffs.

Monday 15 April 2024

Our tour concludes post breakfast and we have organised a coach transfer at 10.30 am (for a 10.45 am departure) for the 45 to 60 minutes transfer to Napier Airport to catch the various flights scheduled to leave from 12.50 pm which will connect back to Australia via either Auckland or Wellington.  Complimentary transfers will NOT be provided if you choose to leave at a different time.

Policies of Cape Kidnappers Pairs & Singles Golf Tournament plus Hawkes Bay Golf Tour 8 to 15 April 2024

Golf cruises offer golfers an interesting way to travel, enjoy your passion for the game and remain fit while partaking in the gourmet delights most luxury cruise ships offer.  For those looking at the options available for you and your fellow keen golfers, here are some pro tips to help you find a cruise that meets all your needs. Finally, your ship has come in!

Check the itinerary

Check the itinerary before you book, to ensure it is a realistic schedule. Seek a cruise that features long and plentiful shore days at ports with good golf courses.  You will probably appreciate the occasional sea day to rest up and relax.

Go all-inclusive to save

High-profile US tour companies typically price their golf at US$500 (A$650) plus per person per round in addition to the cost of the cruise. Trendsetter Travel and Cruise Centre specialises in small all-inclusive luxury ships, and recommends this for the best experience.  Playing the same courses as its more expensive pier group, the golf package component of a Trendsetter cruise less than half the price of its international competitors.

Ship size does matter

Be wary of cruises for more than 1,300 passengers.  Large ships will give priority to their own tours when it comes to disembarking, preventing independently organised golfers from exiting the ship quickly.  Delays can mean missing tee-off times.  Even if you can overcome a late arrival, the delay can cause disappointment when you must abandon the course early to return to your cruise shipboat. David Cooper, the director of Trendsetter Travel, recommends selecting a cruise ship with between 100 and 900 passengers. “These smaller ships can also get to the smaller ports, such as St. Tropez, St. Malo, Menorca, Portofino, which all have great golf courses.”

Make sure you get enough time at port

Most golf excursions take at least eight hours—including return transportation to the course, an un-pressured golf game and importantly time post golf at the club for refreshments and prize giving. To make the most of your day, aim for a minimum of ten hours in port. Your group will need to arrive at the course an hour prior to tee-off, and allow for a round of four balls to be completed (plan on four and ½ hours hours).

Healthy competition and fair play

Select a golf cruise where the organisers incorporate adjustments up and down for players’ handicaps, after each round.  This means that the prize money is spread around over the tour. David Cooper advises to ask about this when you are booking.  “We run a handicap adjustment system after each round to establish a par stableford score for the day,” he says. “After eight games, the better performers may see their handicaps reduce perhaps two shots and the ‘battlers’ might earn four or five shots back.” Every tour golfer wants at least one collect.

Swing your partner ‘round

Cooper advises, “Where our golf tour participants book as a couple, they will always play as a couple unless they request otherwise.”  If you are booking as a single or wish to enhance the challenge by playing outside of your group, find an organiser who is mindful of matching players’ handicaps, so that you can get the most out of the cruise.

Beware the fake golf cruise

You may discover cruises advertised as a golf tour but, on closer inspection, find they only offer golfing pre and post cruise.  Check for this, as it might not be what you have in mind. Trendsetter golf cruises schedule a minimum of six games on cruise shore days.  David Cooper mentions, “We even create opportunities where a golf enthusiast can play additional optional rounds, and others can have a more limited golf programme depending on what they are looking for with equitable downward price adjustments.”   To learn more about the great golf cruises that Trendsetter Travel and Cruise Centre have available, please contact David on (02) 9428 5900 or on david@trendsettertravel.com.au
